If you’ve been on YouTube, you’ve probably noticed that some users are making money off their videos through advertisements, which appear before or during the videos they create. But how exactly do they make money? That’s the question I had when I was first approached to make a video, and I wasn’t sure if I could even monetize my channel if I wanted to because it was brand new.
Choose your niche
Since I'm a college student, I'm always trying to find ways to make money quickly without taking up too much of my time. It was from that mindset that I decided to try monetizing my YouTube channel.
My niche is doing makeup tutorials, so what I did was partner with a few beauty brands and make videos featuring their products. Since then, my monthly income has gone up drastically.
Create Content Around This Niche
Many people know that there are many ways to make money on YouTube. You can create your own content and start from scratch. It's not necessary to be a professional at something or have a huge following in order to be successful and make money. With enough time and hard work, anyone can become an influencer, which is someone with a sizable online following, likes and dislikes mattering less than number of followers and engagement levels.
Pick high-volume topics
This one's a bit counter-intuitive but if you have an interesting niche topic, you may be able to monetize your YouTube content pretty quickly. For example, people will pay you for tutorials that show them how to complete certain tasks (e.g., making sushi, tying a tie) and business owners may be willing to advertise their products or services in front of your videos. That said, it can take some time before your channel begins making significant money so you'll need patience as well as persistence.
Use These Ad Types
Ads are by far the quickest and easiest way to start earning money with your videos. The standard ad format for YouTube videos is called TrueView: It shows a 30-second pre-roll ad before your video, followed by a 6-second mid-roll ad and an 8-second post roll ad at the end of your video.
Optimize Your Videos For Keywords
Keywords can help your videos rank higher in search engine results. Optimizing your video's title, description, tags, and keywords will increase the number of people who can find your videos and view them. Just be sure to keep your keywords relevant to the content of your video.
Produce Regularly and Consistently
The easiest way to make money quickly on YouTube is by producing content consistently. Your goal should be one video per week. You don't have to have a set schedule, but it is wise not to put too much time between videos, as viewers may forget about you and your channel. If you are new or lack a following, there's also the opportunity for an upload weekend in which you upload two videos in the same day or the same week.
Choose the right monetization plan
When I first started making videos, I made one video per day. But it takes a lot of time and patience to grow your audience over time, especially if you have a demanding full-time job or have other responsibilities taking up your time. With some creativity and a little knowledge of video editing software, you can make an extra stream of income while working at your own pace by uploading shorter videos (3-10 minutes long) once or twice a week that can earn you $0.05-$1 per view.
Keep improving as time goes by
In order to make money on YouTube fast, you first need a channel. As your channel grows in popularity and number of subscribers, more people will want ads showing up during the videos. This is how advertisers pay content creators like you. As your audience increases, so will your revenue. This process takes a while, so start today!
